Any Sunday by a lake is a good day.I started out early today, hitting the road at 7:15 am. A huge sun was already well into the sky as i made my way up Hwy 28, through Lakefield to Crowe’s Landing for the Ston(e)y Lake Arts & Crafts Show. Along with approx. 50 other vendors, we welcomed a nice crowd of visitors to this very special place. The variety of art available at Stoney Lake is broad. Among the fine work was handmade furniture, pottery, leather-crafts and everything in-between.
This year i shared a booth with my friend Brad. He owns the Kawartha Lakes Fudge Company in Lakefield. Brad brought some of his fudge (just five of his top selling flavours - i believe his store often has more than 20 flavours on-hand) along with other treats to the show. Having someone there, being able to actually spell each other off is great, as it gives one a chance to see the work of the other artisans and speak to them about their work.
The general consensus was that sales were down over the year previous, but really, this was more than made up for in lovely conversation, networking and weather. As well, i sold a print which i think i’ve hauled to more than 20 shows without a sale. That always feels good, when art finds it’s rightful home. As well, lots of note cards and posters made their way to various places. Some new prints were featured today, a few of which were showing for the very first time. Those will slowly be posted in the store over the coming days and weeks, as the series is completed.
Once the show wrapped at 4pm, and tear-down was complete, a trip to the water’s edge was very much in order. Stoney, no matter how you spell it, is a charming, if over priced paradise. The water is big and cool. Let me tell you, nothing feels better after a warm day at a craft show, than to plunge into a lake as we did today. While relaxing for a few minutes on the dock before starting the drive home, we enjoyed the view while it was sound-tracked perfectly by a rather large boat tied to the dock. It’s speakers were spilling out tunes from The Clash and The Smiths. Hard to beat that! It’s the second time i’ve take my work to this show and without a doubt, it won’t be the last. Thanks Stoney/Stony/Ston(e)y Lake for treating me so well.
