This past weekend Jackson Creek Press was at the Lakefield Jazz Festival. Along with 20ish other vendors, we basked in the hot sun and cool vibes of the music. The location, along the edge of Lake Katchewanooka was ideal for the day, as an ever-present breeze filtered across the event area.
The layout for the vendor village was cool, as it allowed anyone coming or going from the festival to have to walk vendor alley. This made for some nice opportunities for exposure. Sales lagged early on, but as the afternoon music heated up, folks came in good numbers and the end result was a good day, some nice sales and plenty of good conversation.
Spoke to a some couples about wedding invites projects, so hopefully that will come through. Also, lots of nice comments on my Five Canadians series, with some purchases and even a few suggestions for more lists. I didn’t know people were so passionate about The Band?
There was a nice diversity of vendors on hand. I picked up a nice camp pillow for the boys - it features a cool skull pattern. Lots of arty embroidery, sewing, modern painting, furniture and the baked goods were particularly stellar. On that note, a special shout-out to Stoney Lake Baking Co. for their monster merangues. Seriously, these eggy beasts were the size of Finn’s head and filled with fluffy/cloudy goodness. He devoured it in about 10 minutes. See you next year Lakefield.
